In August 2016 BHP, BHP set up a temporary power station at its Yandi mine site to provide power during a scheduled outage. Power Engineering Services engaged Aptus Power to test the 33kV high voltage cables at this temporary power station. The cables run from six substations to one central switchroom.
Aptus Power successfully conducted dc insulation resistance test, sheath integrity test and Very Low Frequency (VLF) high voltage withstand test on these cables. The VLF tests were performed in accordance with IEEE 400.2-2013 – IEEE Guide for Field Testing of Shielded Power Cable Systems Using Very Low Frequency (VLF)(less than 1 Hz).
